Adoptions: Pumpkin

UPDATE-Pumpkin has been adopted

Beautiful orange tabby, Pumpkin, needs forever home or a foster home. I believe she is under a year or just about a year old. She is being foster, loves human contact, however is not so fond of other animals. I was told that she “came with the property” homeowner allergic and could not keep cat, but did not want cat to go into shelter where she would have an uncertain future.

She has tested negative for FIV / FeLV, has been dewormed, frontlined and given first distempter shot. I need to find a home for her quickly. One of my dogs has been a little stressed since she has come into the home. The cat has not been aggressive towards the dog nor has the cat received more attention. If the problem persists or does not resolve itself I will have to put dog on anti-anxiety drug. He is an Italian Greyhound and they respond very differently to those types of drug because they do not have a lot of body fat.

Please contact Donna Doherty at 732-690-7472 or email me at DLDOHTY@AOL.COM

Adoptions: Cyrus

UPDATE: ADOPTED! Cyrus has found his forever home. Thank you to all who inquired and worked to get Cyrus into a loving family.

URGENT!! Old Bridge, NJ. Family is moving and can’t take Cyrus! He needs a home SOON! Cyrus is a young (2 yr old) Lab/Pit mix whose family is moving and he has no place to go. The family cannot take him so he will, most likely, end up in a kill shelter.

He has a great personality, loves people and gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is good with kids also. Cyrus was recently neutered and is up to date on his shots. Of course, he will need some walks in the park or around the neighborhood, but he will repay you by being a faithful, wonderful companion. If you can give him a home, please contact Elda at eldahubbard@hotmail.com or Michael at ventovita@yahoo.com

Cyrus' family is moving and he is headed to a kill shelter

Adoptions: Buddy

Buddy the blind stray needs a home!

Buddy was found running in a bad neighborhood without even his eyesight to guard him against danger.

Meet our friend “Buddy.” Buddy was found as a stray wondering the highway in a dangerous neighborhood. For any dog that is a scary thought, but for Buddy it is even more horrifying because he is blind. Buddy has a degenerative retinal disease and will never be able to see. He is now at The Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center waiting desperately to be adopted. He is very scared… especially with all the dogs barking around him. Buddy is only 2 years young and loves all people. He is gentle and wags his tail at the least bit of attention.

Being in a shelter is no fun for a dog at all. It is especially heartbreaking to see Buddy there. He doesn’t know what he did wrong to wind up all alone and confused. We know that he would adjust quite well in a home. Buddy asks for very little…some food…..a walk…and a little pat on the head for reassurance, but we know what Buddy needs most. He needs an angel to come and take him under their wing and give him the life he desperately deserves. Please cross post this email so together we can find Buddy his forever home.

If you would like to adopt Buddy, please contact Dori Scofield, Shelter Director, Brookhaven at: saveapetny@yahoo.com.

Here is one shelter visitor’s testimonial about her visit with Buddy:

“…I just have to let you know of our visit with a very special dog, that you posted the other day, Buddy, who we now call a Luv Muffin… He seems completely blind, so of course he’s going to bark like crazy when approached, I’d be the same way!! BUT, when he got to know us outside, which took a matter of SECONDS, he was a complete mush!! He absolutely fell in love with Alivia, and kept sniffing & following her back & forth to the bench when she needed to sit. AAAAhhhh was written all over his face, as we petted him FROM HEAD (THOSE ADORABLE EARS INCLUDED) TO THE TIP OF HIS TAIL (which it seems has been a bit beat up by him wagging it). I can’t stress enough, how sweet & perfect he is… we were shaking & heartbroken having to leave him. He’s definitely an adorable Shiba Inu Mix (guessing 40ish lbs).”

Adoptions: Klondike

Klondike is a dashing American Staffordshire Terrier who is approximately 1-2 years old. He is a strong boy who listens well and knows some basic commands like “come” and “sit.” He’s very affectionate and loves to roll around in the grass and get belly rubs. He jumps for joy when his dogwalking friends come to his kennel, but sits patiently when it comes time to be leashed or groomed. He is friendly and playful with the other dogs at the shelter.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Klondike, please contact Elda at eldahubbard@hotmail.com

Adoptions: Precious

Precious is a beautiful DSH silver tabby who was abandoned by her previous owners when they separated. She’s about 2 years and seems to be in good health. She’s very stressed here at the shelter though. She sits in the back of her cage and hisses when you first open the door, but if you take your time and let her sniff you she starts rolling over and purring. She seems like a really nice cat who just needs to get out of here and allowed to have some time to settle in a new environment. We’re already overfull with cats and we’re hoping someone will step up and help us out with this gorgeous kitty!

If you would like to adopt Precious, please contact NJShelterPets@aol.com

Adoptions: Samson

UPDATE: Adopted!  Sammy has found his forever home, and spawned a rescue organization in his honor!

Samson is a handsome brindle Boxer-Pit Bull mix who we think is about 4 years old. He likes to rest his nice big head on your hip and loves to look up at you or flop around in the grass as he soaks up attention. He has been good with the other dogs at the shelter (see pictures of him with Lola), but is a bit too strong for a home with small children.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Samson, please contact Elda at eldahubbard@hotmail.com

Adoptions: Cocoa

UPDATE: Fostered! Cocoa is currently living in the home of one of our volunteers with 3 foster sibling dogs.  She is adjusting well, loves playing with the other dogs, and is a sweet affectionate girl.  She is still looking for her Forever Home.

Cocoa is a striking dark chocolate brown Staffordshire Terrier. She is still a puppy (approx. about 12-15 mth old), who was found as a stray and has been at the shelter since October! She has not shown aggression toward other dogs, but she is very active and vocal, barking when she sees another dog while she’s leashed. However, when dogs walk past her cage, she’s fine, wags her tail and nuzzles, she does not appear to be dog aggressive. Her barking at other dogs seems to be a desire to play. She is pretty strong so will need someone who can handle her and train her to behave a bit better when around other dogs. She’s a beautiful dog and will make a wonderful companion for an experienced person.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Cocoa, please contact Sammy’s Hope at info@sammyshope.org
or fill out an online adoption form for her…
